Waypoint #6

After Adventure

Waypoint

noun /ˈwāˌpoint/

A stopping place on a journey. In modern terms, it most often refers to coordinates which specify one’s location at each stage along the way. Here we will use Waypoints to identify the stages of The Adventure Plan.

You Did It! Yay! Just a few more things to do.  Doing this last waypoint doesn’t only recognize the Adventure, it documents the successes and pitfalls for the next Adventure. Closing out an adventure not only save time for the next group, it helps them do it even better!

Review / Document

Close out Budget – Following the conclusion of the  Adventure, the leaders, Records Manager, unit treasurer and committee chair review all Adventure expenses and income receipts and ensure all financial records are entered on the TAP Expense Income Record and all bills have been paid. The unit treasurer refunds any left-over funds to the participants. The unit treasurer prepares an Adventure financial report for presentation to the unit committee and parents.

Highlight what went well, what didn’t go well – Feedback is the best way to improve the next Adventure. In the future, do more of the good things.

How to make it better – Ask yourself, what would have made it better? Write that down for the next time.

Awards

Depending on what activities you did on your Adventure, it is likely you could have achieved an award. Sometime, that is the purpose of the Adventure, say in pursuit of advancement (rank or merit badge). But the are other awards that you may have qualified for such as the following:

After Party

A month or so after the Adventure, have a gathering to celebrate what you have accomplished. Invite parents, siblings, friends, and anyone else interested to share pictures, videos, and stories of your Adventure. While this often works well during a Court of Honor, it can be it’s own separate activity. Either way, this is a good time to give out earned awards.
