Personal fitness is one of the four aims of Scouting America. This Pack Meeting is filled with activity and is focused on building healthy habits around physical fitness, personal care, nutrition, and proper rest.
Keep parents engaged in the activities and aware of requirements, as many of these habits are formed at home.
Prior to any activity, use the Scouting America SAFE Checklist to ensure the safety of all those involved.
All participants in official Scouting America activities should become familiar with the Guide to Safe Scouting and applicable program literature or manuals.
Be aware of state or local government regulations that supersede Scouting America practices, policies, and guidelines.
To assist in the safe delivery of the program, you may find specific safety items that are related to requirements for the Adventure.
Before starting this Adventure complete the following:
Before the meeting:
This Personal Fitness Pack Meeting has several requirements that are done at home. It is best to communicate details of at-home activities in a written form with direct links to the online resource. Referred to often, as this will help ensure everyone is well informed and prepared.
If they have not already done so have everyone complete their Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Record form and bring it to the Pack Meeting. This does not require a doctor’s visit. Parents should make leaders aware of any conditions that they or their child may have that could limit participation, any allergies, or any other condition that leaders should be aware of.
The following requirements are completed at home before the pack meeting.
ARROW OF LIGHT – As Arrow of Light Scouts prepare to join a Troop it is common in Scouts BSA Advancement for a Scout to have to track progress and record over time. Requirement 2 for Personal Fitness requires Scouts to track for 2 weeks. Provide Scouts and parents enough at least two weeks with a reminder of this at-home requirement, before the pack meeting.
Near the entrance to the meeting location, station a greeter to welcome people as they arrive and provide everyone with a name tag. Group Lions, Tigers, and Wolves together and Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light together for two separate activities.
LIONS, TIGERS, AND WOLVES – Play Duck, Duck, Goose, allowing individuals to join in between rounds.
BEAR, WEBELOS, AND ARROW OF LIGHT – Play Sleeping Steve, allowing individuals to join in between rounds.
Give directions on den breakouts/den meetings.
No additional games needed for this meeting.
Use the presentation Personal Fitness Ceremony.
Cub Scouts, tonight we talked about fitness. Being fit isn’t about being perfect; it’s about taking small steps every day to be the best version of ourselves. Maybe that’s playing a sport, choosing a fruit instead of a cookie, or simply taking a walk outside. When we take care of our bodies, we feel better, think more clearly, and have more energy for Scouting adventures and life. Fitness is a gift we give to ourselves, and it helps us be strong and ready to help others. Let’s keep growing strong together!
Good job tonight, Scouts. And remember, have fun and do your best!
