What Is Jamboree-on-the-Internet?
Jamboree-on-the-Internet, or JOTI, is an annual international Scouting event sponsored by World Scouting. Each year, during the third weekend in October, Scouts from around the world gather online to learn about other cultures and the activities in which other Scouts participate. They communicate with each other using Internet-enabled devices such as computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. About 2 million Scouts and leaders in over 170 countries participate annually!
Who Can Participate?
Scouts of any age can take part, from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA, Venturers, Sea Scouts and Leaders. Scouts can participate at home with the help of an adult, or they can participate in a Scout group at a council event. JOTI is an economical way to participate in an international jamboree. The event allows Scouts to “meet” other Scouts from around the world through the Internet and share more information than just “Hi.” The exchanges can include such information as name, location of event, Scout rank, age, and hobbies. Some exchanges lead to long-lasting friendships. JOTI participation fulfills requirements for the Citizenship in the World merit badge and the International Spirit Award.
How Do I Participate?
Follow these steps to join the “travel free jamboree!”
- Go to: jotajoti.info on your laptop, computer or smart phone; Click on Log In
- If you already have a World Scouting account which is different than your Scouting America Account, enter your scout.org Username and Password to register.
- If you don’t have a World Scouting account, you will set one up. Because JOTA-JOTI is an event hosted by World Scouting, you will need to create your World Scouting Username and Password. This account will also allow you access on the World Scouting website at: www.scout.org where you’ll find a world of international Scouting information and activities worthy of your exploration!
- At the jotajoti.info home page, click on LOGIN and you’ll see the screen at the right. Each device or user requires their own login. If Cub Scouts are doing this from home, their parent or guardian can register on behalf of a child under the age of 13, under the commitment to participate together.
