Commissioners are considered trained when they complete the prescribed online Position-Specific Training or the facilitated In-Person Instructor-Led Position-Specific Training. Their introductory training is complete when they have finished the online or in-person modules.
Commissioner Orientation – Welcome to Unit Service!
Who are commissioners and what do we do? This orientation will help all new commissioners (regardless of their position) become acquainted with the culture of unit service and guide them through their first steps in preparing for their new role. A 10-minute video and guide are provided below:

Online option
Position-Specific Training courses are available in Scouting America’s Learn Center.
Online learning plans are available for:
- Unit Commissioner
- Roundtable/Asst Roundtable Commissioner
- District/Asst District Commissioner
- Council/Asst Council Commissioner
The Commissioner Position-Specific Online Training is currently being updated and is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2026. In the meantime, Commissioner Moment Special Edition #4 – Commissioner Training Essentials has been created as a bridge while transitioning to address changes in our approach to unit service and to align with the current Commissioner Position-Specific Instructor-Led Trainings.
Additionally, many current commissioners may not be fully aware that these transitions have been made. This presentation is also designed for commissioners who may be unfamiliar with the changes.
