With the approval of your parent or guardian and your counselor, decide on and carry out an individual project that you would do around the home that would benefit your family. After completion, discuss the objective or goal and the results of the project with your family and then your counselor.

Building Your Own Project

In addition to your regular duties, you can do many other things around the home that would benefit your family. Take some time to think about what projects need to be done and which one you could do. You might ask other family members to give you some suggestions.

1
Know Your Goal

Define the purpose of your project and how this project will benefit your entire family.

Tip: Pick a project that you care about to stay motivated.

2
Do Research

Ask your family about their current needs for the home to find a meaningful project.

3
Set Your Plan

Finalize your plan by estimating the project’s duration and evaluating its potential costs.

4
Get Permission

Check with the family members to make sure your project is approved.

Tip: Be sure to ask for permission before buying supplies and do so early to avoid any delays.

5
Gather Supplies

Organize a list and collect everything you’ll need before starting. Get to work!
