Supply List

  • 50-inch x 60-inch throw blanket (one for each team of four or more)
  • 6” playground ball (one for each team of four or more)

Objective

Work together as a team to throw and catch a ball using a blanket.

Set-Up

Identify a location outdoors that is clear of hazards and large enough for teams to move about.  Watch for potential hazards where a missed ball may land.

Directions

With a team of at least four, one person for each corner of the blanket, additional players can grab the sides of the blanket.  A team of four can practice throwing and catching themselves.  Team members grab hold of the blanket’s corners/edges with a 6” playground ball in the center of the blanket.   The team works together to pull the blanket tight to have the ball thrown into the air and then the team works to catch the ball in the blanket.  Have the team see how high they can get their ball to go into the air.  After the teams have developed some skill in catching their own ball, they can toss the ball toward another team to catch in their blanket.  Teams continue throwing and catching back and forth.

Level Up – Make a game out of it where a team gets a point every time they successfully catch the ball in their blanket.  The first team with10 points – or who has the most points after a designated amount of time – wins.

Change the ball for water balloons.

Add another ball.
