Commissioners, it’s Cub Scout Mike, and now is the time to be sure your cub packs have planned for the fall. Have your packs scheduled their fall recruiting events? Is the pack calendar completed and ready? I’d love to share your recruiting flyers with our packs, please send me any good examples you may have!
Dens containing both boys and girls are now optional, having been approved at the National Annual Meeting. Having boy and girl dens should help integrate girls into the pack when there really aren’t enough girls to have a separate all-girl den. Also, if your pack has only a few Scouts at one age level, consider combining dens. For example, two Wolves and three Tigers could be combined and meet together.
Be careful with Lion dens. Make sure the pack has a senior volunteer or two working with or overseeing a new den of kindergartners and their parents. You don’t want new kindergarten parents left alone to figure out what scouting is all about. Send me any ideas you have utilizing and integrating lions into the pack.
Tigers are the barometer of a pack’s health. The larger the Tiger den, the better for the future health of the pack as tiger parents are the next few years’ pack leaders. If at all possible, the Tiger den should be the largest den in the pack.
The big news in Cub Scouting is that on June 1, 2024, there will be a brand new Cub Scout program. Be on the lookout for opportunities to learn about the new program, as it is Fun, Simple to understand, and Easy to deliver. Contact me directly for specific ways to learn about the new program.
All for now, Cub Scout Mike standing by!
