Position Overview

The Baltimore Area Council (BAC) is among the strongest Council’s in the Country. The BAC has one of the top nonprofit boards in the area and is in a strong financial position with a consistent budget surplus and a healthy endowment. Currently the BAC is in the middle of a 10M Capital Campaign for the revitalization of our 1,700 acre Camping facility, Broad Creek Scout Reservation.

Baltimore is home to the Ravens, Orioles, National Aquarium, the birthplace of the National Anthem and many other cultural and historical sites. The city and surrounding counties represent incredible diversity, and Scouting is strong throughout. The BAC is a great place for any Scouting Professional to grow their skills and achieve upward mobility. Our Council Staff of 29 is a family that enjoys winning and growing together.

Senior District Executive candidates will be the Chief Operating Officer of the assigned district and is responsible for the effective organization, operation, and promotion of the council program within the district; responsible for the achievement of districts objectives, including measurable goals expected by a member of the Baltimore Area Council Field Staff. Works with the District Chairman and District Commissioner and their teams to fulfill their functions and facilitate the optimum collaboration between the district and the board.

Responsibilities
  • Working with and supporting the District Nominating Committee, recruits, develops, and maintains effective volunteer management teams.
  • Maintains a professional working climate that attracts, retains, and motivates top-quality volunteers.
  • Assures the district achieves its mission and makes consistent progress.
  • Assures that the flow of funds from the district helps the council to achieve its mission.
  • Provides leadership and training to other staff in the council.
  • Position will have key council assignments for professional growth and development.
Qualifications
  • Proven FOS success and skills in community organization. Individual should understand the process to identify potential upper-level prospects and have skill set to work with and support Council Board members to approach potential prospects.
  • Effective in managing membership and new unit organization to achieve growth on a consistent basis with attention to retention of units and youth.
  • Ability to manage functioning districts at a high level of operation and effectively utilize the annual nominating committee process.
  • Prior experience in Scouting not limited to 2 years or more successful experience as a District Executive.
  • Excellent analytic skills with a proven commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
  • Must possess a focus on continuous improvement and growth, both within the organization and with self.
  • Flexible schedule frequently required for evening/weekend events.
  • Team player, positive attitude and willing to learn.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured.
  • Seeking individual who is professional in dress, well-spoken and comfortable in social and networking settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, written communication and verbal presentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment).

David Alexander

David Alexander is a Baden-Powell Fellow, Summit Bechtel Reserve philanthropist, and recipient of the Silver Buffalo and Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. He is the founder of Caljet, one of the largest independent motor fuels terminals in the U.S. He has served the Arizona Petroleum Marketers Association, Teen Lifeline, and American Heart Association. A triathlete who has completed hundreds of races, Alexander has also mentored the women’s triathlon team at Arizona State University.

He is the former president of the National Eagle Scout Association and established the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award. He has more than 40 years of experience in the oil, gas, and energy fields, including serving as a president, owner, and CEO. Adams has also received multiple service awards from the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.
