Senior Program Administration Specialist - Outdoor Programs
Position Overview
This role oversees the administration, coordination, and quality assurance of National Camp School (NCS) resident sections day camp and short-term camping programs. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in camp operations, particularly within National Camping Schools and short-term camp administration. The position is multifaceted, with a primary focus on managing and delivering high-quality outdoor programming. Key responsibilities include faculty selection and training, curriculum and course content development, and the creation of marketing materials to support local council outreach. The incumbent will also serve as a strategic advisor to outdoor program subcommittees and play a critical role in ensuring that all camping programs uphold the highest standards of safety, educational value, and participant engagement. This position reports to Director of Outdoor Programs and Properties.
Responsibilities
- Administer National Camp School resident sections (Camp Director, Program Director, Aquatics, COPE/Climbing, Range and Target Activities, Ecology, Outdoor Skills), Day Camp, and Short-term camp Administrator sections.
- Oversee marketing, curriculum development, program design, quality control, and faculty training for camp sections.
- Provide direct service to local councils regarding outdoor program content and manage related Scouting America literature.
- Support NCAP (National Camp Accreditation Program) and other outdoor volunteer committees.
- Organize and manage National Camping Schools, including faculty selection, course content, and site selection.
- Develop comprehensive marketing materials to support local council camping programs.
- Serve as a staff advisor to one or more outdoor subcommittees.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of: Large-scale program development, implementation, and evaluation principles; outdoor program best practices and safety protocols; Scouting America policies, procedures, and financial regulations; budgeting, resource management, and cost control principles; volunteer recruitment, management, and training techniques.
- Skill in: Coordinating the development, execution, and evaluation of large-scale events; project management, organization, and completion within time and budget guidelines; interpersonal communication and collaboration with stakeholders; independent problem-solving, analytics, and decision-making; event budget development and tracking; program evaluation and enhancement.
- Ability to: Coordinate with all stakeholders and staff to ensure safety, profitability, and success of National Camping School; handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure; work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during National Camping School; travel to program locations throughout the United States; recruit appropriate staff and ensure adequate training; collaborate with other divisions for site readiness and venue selection.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Event Management, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Qualifications
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in large-scale event management and program development.
- Previous experience in resident camp operations and National Camping School experience is essential.
- Must possess strong communication, marketing, and organizational skills.
- Must pass a criminal history background check.
Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements
Licenses
- National Camping School Camp Director Certification preferred.
- Scouting America Commissioned Professional preferred.
