District Executive
Position Overview
Washington Crossing Council, Scouting America, is a values-based youth development organization that has been shaping future leaders since 1910. As a District Executive with Washington Crossing Council, you’ll play a key role in growing and supporting Scouting programs throughout your assigned communities. This mission-driven position offers meaningful work, career development, and the chance to make a real impact by guiding volunteers, building community partnerships, and helping young people thrive.
Responsibilities
As a District Executive, you will:
• Grow Scouting in your communities by building relationships with schools, religious organizations, and civic groups to start and support local programs.
• Develop and lead teams of volunteers by recruiting, training, and inspiring community members to serve in key leadership roles.
• Drive membership growth and retention by planning and supporting local recruitment events and ensuring units receive the tools they need to succeed.
• Secure financial support by managing fundraising campaigns and working with local donors and businesses.
• Deliver high-quality programs and events by coordinating training, activities, and community engagement opportunities for youth and volunteers.
• Provide excellent support to volunteers through timely communication, regular meetings, and hands-on assistance.
• Represent Scouting in the community by acting as a professional ambassador and advocate for the mission, values, and impact of Scouting.
• Collaborate with your fellow staff and council leadership to meet shared goals, exchange best practices, and continuously improve service to units.
• Work flexible hours that include evenings and weekends to meet with volunteers, attend events, and support local Scouting success.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree required
Qualifications
What You Bring to the Table:
• A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.
• Excellent people skills, creative, enthusiastic, responsible attitude, and a marketing background are highly desired.
• Non-profit fundraising, program development, or sales experience is a plus.
• Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences.
• Self-motivated with solid time management and strong organizational skills is a must.
• Must be willing to accept and meet the Scouting America leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
• Ability to work varied hours when necessary, evening activities, and weekend work are frequently required to achieve positive objectives.
• Ability to travel for training at least once a year for one to two weeks.
