Position Overview

Scout Executive/CEO – 500

Serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the council and gives direction to the operations and administration of the council, subject to the authority and direction of the executive board. Serves as the secretary for the council, the executive board, and the executive committee. Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees of the executive board. Is responsible for strategic planning, council and Boy Scouts of America objectives, fiscal stability, membership and growth management, and for volunteer and community relationships for the Scouting program and unit service within the council. Carries out other duties of the office as set forth in the council bylaws, Article VI, Officers and Committee Members, Section 6.

Resumes and Cover letters are due by June 5th.  These documents will be shared with the selection committee.  Cover letters should provide information supporting local council competencies/profile.

Responsibilities

Is responsible for effectively managing a council with revenue of $0 to $0.8 million.

  • Membership: Establishes an action plan that results in balanced growth so all qualified youth may participate.
  • Personnel: Recruits and trains a full complement of volunteers and staff to fulfill the council’s objectives.
  • Finance: Develops, in cooperation with the finance committee, a budget based on the council’s resources.
  • Program: Directs Scouting programs in the council, including public relations, training, activities, camping, etc.
  • Administration: Provides general direction to the work of the council to ensure an efficient council operation.
  • Other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Seven+ years’ experience
  • A history of success and innovative fundraising (FOS, special events, and product sales).
  • Skilled and experienced in corporate governance.
  • Skilled and experienced in all phases of membership growth management.
  • Has experience and knowledge in cultivating and recruiting volunteers.
  • Has experience and knowledge in team building.
  • Financial Acumen – Utilizing financial data to diagnose business strengths and weaknesses and identify the implications for potential strategies, keeping a financial perspective at the forefront when making strategic decisions.
  • Selling the Vision – Vividly communicating a compelling view of the future state in a way that helps others understand and feel how business outcomes will be different when the vision and values become a reality.
  • Driving Execution – Translating strategic priorities into operational reality; aligning communication, accountabilities, resource capabilities, internal processes, and ongoing measurement systems to ensure that strategic priorities yield measurable results.
  • Cultivating Networks – Initiating and maintaining strategic relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the organization (i.e., customers, peers, cross-functional partners, external vendors, and alliance partners) to advance business goals.
  • Operational Decision Making – Securing and comparing information from multiple sources to identify business issues; committing to an action after weighing alternative solutions against important decision criteria.
  • Executive Disposition – Demonstrating a poised, credible, and confident demeanor that reassures others and commands respect; conveying an image that is consistent with the organization’s vision and values. Can relate and feel comfortable with unit volunteers, district/board members, and community/ business leaders.

Salary: $75,000/yr.   –   $125,000/yr.

Adams has also received multiple service awards from the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.
