Outdoor Field Services Director
Position Overview
Provides leadership to the achievement of the council’s philosophy, mission, and strategy as well as to its annual objectives and goals impacting District Operations, as well as outdoor programs within the council’s geographic territory. Provides leadership to District Executives (2) and Unit Growth Executive (1). Directs the management and operations of the council’s outdoor mobile programs. Recruits, trains, and motivates volunteers to oversee the continuing success, growth, and development of Scouting within the greater Central Illinois area throughout the three districts of the council: Lincoln Home, Honest Abe, and Log Cabin/Rail-splitter, to deliver Scouting programs
Be an out-of-the-box thinker and have strong relationships and organizational experience. The position reports directly to the Scout Executive. The position has three direct reports. Works with other professional staff in areas of program. This position leads in conjunction with the DEs the District Key Three(s), District Committee meetings, Roundtables, and District Commissioner meetings, assuring its accountability to all constituencies, and ensuring effective operations. Outside the District Operations, the position leads the council’s COPE/Climbing and other mobile programs, including shooting sports, as well as interacts with the district committee, commissioner staff, community resources, schools, potential charter partners, as well as council committee members.
Responsibilities
Principal Accountabilities
- The main focus is on providing leadership, growing membership, and revenue within the council
- Recruits, develops, and maintains effective district nominating committees that meet on an ongoing basis.
- Maintains a professional working climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates staff as well as volunteers
- Responsible for quality programs, including mobile programs that lead to increased retention within the council.
- Ensure unit needs are addressed quickly and resolved through the right volunteers with staff support.
- Engage unit leaders to adapt financially sustainable unit programs through popcorn sales.
- Raise funds through the Popcorn and the Friends of Scouting campaigns through leadership, families, and community campaigns.
- Work in partnership with ALC council program teams to deliver local programs, activities, and training through our mobile programs inside and outside of scouting.
- Give leadership to the COPE/Climbing, Aquatics, as well as support to District Committees and Training, serves as the staff advisor to OA. Knowledge & Training needed
- Be familiar with resources found on scouting.org, mybsa2.scouting.org, my.scouting.org, and other online platforms.
- Keep current Youth Protection Training
- Become familiar with the process for membership and new unit registration
- Ability to communicate to each new unit the need for calendar, budget, and youth participation. Establish with the new unit leaders a process and timeline to accomplish this on their own in future years.
- Online and in-person training provided through Scouting U when appropriate.
- Successfully served as a DE/SDE/DD or Program Director with a proven track record of achievement.

Qualifications
- Strong relationship-building experience required.
- Must have an outgoing personality to engage volunteers to develop an exceptional unit program. Interpersonal skills and the ability to be persuasive are a must.
- Strong verbal and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to relate to a wide variety of personalities.
- A high level of organizational skills is required.
- An engaging and aggressive mental state with a high level of achievement is required.
- Leadership skills are a must to effectively follow up and follow through with staff and district volunteers, and commissioners.
- A passion for Scouting to grow and thrive is essential.

Salary or Salary Range: $65,000 to $75,000 based upon experience
