Job Summary: The Atlanta Area Council, Boy Scouts of America serves thousands of families in Metro-Atlanta with a nationally recognized leadership program based in the outdoors. With an operating budget of over $14 million, the Council has a diversified stream of revenue which includes funding from an annual operating campaign, six special events, corporate partnerships, planned giving, and other sources.

The Atlanta Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, located directly across from Truist Park, is seeking a Development Director to give leadership, direction, and support of specialized fundraising initiatives. We are seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Field Development Director. This Development Director will be responsible for leading fundraising and development efforts, cultivating relationships with donors, Scouting families and alumni and implementing strategies to drive financial support to sustain and grow our organization’s impactful programs.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Fundraising Leadership: Design and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that diversifies revenue streams by cultivating individual, corporate, and foundation donors while exploring new and innovative funding opportunities.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and nurture meaningful partnerships with donors, community leaders, and corporate partners, ensuring long-term support and engagement.
  • Collaborative Strategy Development: Partner with executive leadership and board members to create and execute high-impact fundraising initiatives, campaigns, and special events.
  • Donor Portfolio Management: Oversee and grow a portfolio of existing and prospective donors, delivering exceptional stewardship through personalized engagement and recognition.
  • Research and Proposal Development: Identify high-potential donor prospects within our Scouting families and alumni network, crafting compelling proposals and presentations to secure major gifts and sponsorships.
  • Event Oversight: Lead the planning and execution of our signature fundraising event, managing logistics, volunteer teams, and ensuring impactful donor experiences.
  • Data-Driven Analysis: Monitor progress and analyze fundraising metrics to assess performance, refine strategies, and capitalize on opportunities for growth.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
Qualifications
  • Must meet the Boy Scouts of America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with degree conferral date required for employment).
  • Minimum age of 21 years, unless prohibited by applicable law.
  • At least 3 years of experience in fundraising, development, or a related field, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proven success in building and sustaining donor relationships and achieving fundraising goals.
  • Expertise in planning and executing successful fundraising campaigns and events, including logistics and volunteer management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders, including donors and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in donor management software (e.g., Blackbaud, Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and skilled in engaging diverse audiences.
  • Self-motivated and highly organized, with expertise in budgeting, planning, and time management.
  • Committed to maintaining high ethical and professional standards while achieving personal and organizational productivity.

He has more than 40 years of experience in the oil, gas, and energy fields, including serving as a president, owner, and CEO. Adams has also received multiple service awards from the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.
