Position Overview

Maintain Northern New Jersey Council assets and property at Camp Turrell to ensure all buildings, vehicles, equipment, roads, and event areas are properly maintained and operational for yearly activities.

The overall camp appearance is clean and maintained to look professional and considered safe.

All expenditures are pre-approved, and you are within budgeting confines.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintain positive public relations with campers and the community. Coordinate emergency services for the camp.
  2. Maintain security for the property.
  3. Maintain the home and property immediately surrounding the home to a high standard.
    1. Keep the grass cut short and yard well-manicured.
    2. Keep all personal possessions out of sight of campers.
    3. Do not store unregistered vehicles on camp property.
  4. Work closely with camp master coordinator to assure proper unit check-in and check-out. Assure that all campers have a safe stay at the camp.
  5. Work closely with Camps Maintenance/Conservation chair on camp inspections, camp needs, and project approvals.
  6. Conduct a minimum of 25 hours per week of work in the above five functions and the following:
    1. Keep all camp facilities maintained in a safe condition within local codes and Council budgets.
    2. Complete and submit any incident occurring on camp property. This is to be done by phone to the Camping Director and in writing on the incident report form.
    3. Keep accurate records of all work done in the camp by you or anyone else. Get approval for all purchases from the Council Deputy Scout Executive and get receipts for any related purposes. Take delivery of camp supplies and equipment.
    4. Maintain inventories of camp equipment and supplies.
    5. Act as Council’s liaison with local vendors and service providers.
  7. A camp vehicle is provided. Keep it well maintained, keep accurate records on vehicle service, use it only for camp use. A plow is provided to keep major camp roads plowed.
Education

High school diploma, strong trade skills

Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years old

Must be able to make routine repairs to camp facilities, including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs. These skill sets are highly desired.

Must be able to complete required paperwork, reports, keep accurate records of inventories, repairs, and financial records.

Must have good public relation skills. This is a plus for this position.

Licenses

Must have a valid driver’s license in NY state.

Must be willing to go to Ranger school.

Salary or Salary Range:  Compensation is commensurate with experience.
