Position Overview

The Mount Baker Council (MBC) is one of the top performing Councils in the Country. MBC is in a strong financial position with a consistent budget surplus and a healthy endowment.

The District Director selected supports the overall health of current Scouting units in the areas of membership growth, volunteer recruitment, program administration, and fund development. Works with Commissioner team and District Committee to evaluate and deploy additional volunteer/staff resources to increase and sustain unit health and participant experience.

Candidates for the District Director position will be the Chief Executive Officer of the North Cascades District, which includes the cities of Bellingham, Mount Vernon, and Oak Harbor in Washington state.  Serves as manager and operating officer of the district and is responsible for the effective organization, operation, and promotion of the council program within the district.  The position will supervise one full-time staff member and one part-time specialist.

Responsibilities
  • Working with and supporting the District volunteer leadership, recruits, develops, and maintains effective volunteer management teams.
  • Maintains a professional working climate that attracts, retains, and motivates top-quality volunteers.
  • Assures the district achieves its mission and makes consistent progress.
  • Assures that the flow of funds from the district helps the council to achieve its mission.
  • Provides leadership and training to other staff in the council.
  • Position will have key council assignments for professional growth and development.
  • Qualifications
  • Ability to supervise staff utilizing effective back-dating and work scheduling.
  • Proven fundraising success and skills in community organization. Individual should understand the process to identify potential upper-level prospects and have skill set to work with and support Council Board members to approach potential prospects.
  • Effective in managing membership and new unit organization to achieve growth on a consistent basis with attention to retention of units and youth.
  • Ability to manage functioning districts at a high level of operation and effectively utilize the annual nominating committee process.
Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Qualifications
  • Prior experience in Scouting needed.
  • Well organized, detail oriented and polished staff leadership skills.
  • Excellent analytic skills with a proven commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
  • Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Must possess a focus on continuous improvement and growth, both within the organization and with self.
  • Flexible schedule frequently required for evening/weekend events.
  • Team player, positive attitude and willing to learn.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured.
  • Seeking individual who is professional in dress, well-spoken and comfortable in social and networking settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, written communication and verbal presentation skills.

He is the founder of Caljet, one of the largest independent motor fuels terminals in the U.S. He has served the Arizona Petroleum Marketers Association, Teen Lifeline, and American Heart Association. A triathlete who has completed hundreds of races, Alexander has also mentored the women’s triathlon team at Arizona State University.

He is the former president of the National Eagle Scout Association and established the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award. He has more than 40 years of experience in the oil, gas, and energy fields, including serving as a president, owner, and CEO. Adams has also received multiple service awards from the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.
