Position Overview

The Summit Bechtel Reserve is seeking a skilled and experienced Cook to join our team. This position assists with culinary functions at the dining halls to include preparing and providing quality and nutritional food service in support of BSA programs.

The Cook will be responsible for cooking and preparing food using standard recipes and production guidelines while following food safety, food handling, and sanitation procedures. The individual in this role should safely handle knives and equipment including grills, fryers, ovens, broilers, etc.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery, and service schedules.
  • Prepares, garnishes, and serves meals for service or delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty. Tastes all prepared food items prior to service to ensure proper standards of quality are being met.
  • Cleans kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Stores or discards excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures.
  • Keeps refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat. Ensures food and supply items are stored per established standards.
  • Operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed.
  • Assists lead cooks in production planning, record keeping and reporting as required.
  • Assists in the ordering and receiving of all food and supplies as required.
  • Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintains excellent customer service and positive demeanor towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, etc. Performs job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Ensures security of company assets
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Competencies:

Knowledge of:  The basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage.

Skill in: Proficient in all aspects of food preparation; utilizing equipment and tools that pertain to food service; interpreting menus and recipes; adjusting ingredients based on taste.; basic math and counting; effective written and verbal interpersonal and communication.

Ability to: Work independently with limited supervision; organize time for execution of meals; communicate with the Head Cook as needed regarding kitchen standards and meal preparations.

Education

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Qualifications
  • 1 year of experience as a cook or related role.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.
  • Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator, prepare food, and operate kitchen equipment including kitchen knives; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
Licenses

Food safety certification.
