Position Overview

The Program Director is responsible for the effective organization, operation, and leadership of the council’s camping programs, properties, and program delivery. The Program Director is responsible for achievement of the council’s program goals, the development of new programs and initiatives, as well as, the maintenance and development of the council camps.
Responsibilities
1. Serve as Camp Director for Wehinahpay Mountain Camp.
2. Through and with Rangers, seasonal staff and volunters;
•Ensure the safe and effective operation of our camp operations.
•Obtain Full NCAP accreditation by BSA inspection teams of all summer and day camp programs.
•Support the Properties Committee to create a sustainable Master Plan for all council camps that achieves the council’s traditional, initiative, outreach and community relationships objectives.
•Give leadership to fiscal oversight of camping and program budget development, controls, and capital improvement budgets.
3. With the Office Manager
•Provide excellent customer service and support for summer registrations, year-round rentals, events and other campaign support
4. Lead the development of the annual council calendar and work to market it through an annual program planning guide with Marketing Committee support.
5. Oversee Council-level program events like the Merit Badge College, Spring Camporee, ILST, IOLS and shooting sports training.
6. Provide primary and secondary staff support to the Vice President of Program through the operating and special committees including: Camping, Training, Advancement, Activities and Civic Service, Order of the Arrow and various task forces, related to the council’s Strategic Plan
Qualifications
- Strong writing, visual, oral and digital communications skills preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience in NCAP standards for short term and long term activities.
- BSA membership and approved commissioning.
- Ability to relate to a wide variety of personalities.
- Ability to supervise staff remotely to achieve goals and objectives.
- Effective in managing various projects and budgets simultaneously.
- High level of organizational skill is required.
- A passion to grow the Boy Scouts of America is essential.
- Have the capability to deal with several working projects at any given time.
- Set and achieve challenging, aggressive, yet achievable targets for success.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
Benefits
The Conquistador Council is an equal opportunity employer and will offer the successful candidate at least a 15% salary increase while maintaining all current benefit coverages including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, match savings plan. The Conquistador Council offers a $40 dollar a month cell phone stipend and reimburses at the IRS rate for business mileage. We will also continue to support your professional development ensuring that you go to at least one supplemental BSA training a year. Salary range: $39,000 – $55,000.
