This training isn’t just “watch a video and check a box.” It’s about you being aware, prepared, and capable of looking out for yourself and others. You’ll be more confident—and a better photographer—if you understand how to stay safe online and offline.

DIGITAL SAFETY
You deserve to feel safe emotionally, physically, and digitally. Being aware isn’t about being scared—it’s about being prepared and empowered.
- Your online actions and digital footprint matter—what you post or share can stick around.
- Think before you click: Strange links, odd messages, or requests for info can be red flags.
- Passwords are serious business—sharing or reusing them can expose you to big risks.
- Respect privacy—both yours and others’. Devices, images, social posts: Just because you can share doesn’t mean you should.
- If something online makes you uncomfortable or you’re not sure, talk to a trusted adult. It does not have to be an immediate danger to matter!
- Photos taken in public locations of crowds or people that are candid, documentary-style, or artistic are generally OK to post.
- Do not take or publish images that show people in a bad way or that might upset them.
- NEVER photograph people in places where there is an expectation of privacy, such as bathrooms, changing rooms, and private residential property.
Helpful Tip:
If you’re unsure what to do, you’re not stuck. You have options:
- Talk to a parent
- Talk to a Scout leader
- Talk to another adult you can trust
- If you need it, talk to a friend who can help you speak up
