Snapshot of Pack Meeting and Service Project

This could be used as a first Pack Meeting after all formal recruitment events have been conducted or used for a new Pack’s first meeting.

Safety Moment

FOR ALL RANKS

Prior to any activity, use the Scouting America SAFE Checklist to ensure the safety of all those involved.

All participants in official Scouting America activities should become familiar with the Guide to Safe Scouting and applicable program literature or manuals.

Be aware of state or local government regulations that supersede Scouting America practices, policies, and guidelines.

Before conducting a craft activity, review the Craft Tips video (2 minutes 34 seconds.)

Before the Meeting

The Character and Leadership Pack Meeting is focused on Bobcat and will likely be the Pack’s first meeting. Frequent communication in various ways will be required to make sure everyone knows about the meeting. It is recommended for the first Pack Meeting that each parent is called to give them a chance to ask questions and remind them of the meeting.

At Home Requirements

ALL RANKS – Before the Pack Meeting, remind all parents and legal guardians to purchase their child’s handbook and to review the “How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide“. The guide is in the front of each handbook.

ARROW OF LIGHT – The Bobcat Adventure for Arrow of Light requires Arrow of Light Scouts to visit a Scouts BSA Troop. If possible, arrange this visit before the Pack Meeting so the Arrow of Light Scouts can earn their Bobcat Adventure the night of the Pack Meeting. If not present, the Arrow of Light Scouts with the Bobcat Adventure when they have completed their visit. The visit may be done as a family or as a den.

During The Meeting

Gathering Activity

Near the entrance to the meeting location, station a greeter to welcome people as they arrive and provide everyone with a name tag and hand out the Get to Know You Bingo sheets to each Cub Scout and adult. Inform them that Cub Scouts get to know other Cub Scouts, and adults get to know other adults.

Opening Ceremony and Remarks

Opening Remarks

Welcome, Cub Scouts, families, and friends! Tonight, we celebrate an important milestone in the journey of Scouting—the Bobcat adventure. Bobcat is more than just the first adventure in Cub Scouting.

It is the first step toward living the values of the Scout Oath and Law, and make friends.  As we gather here, let us remember that every great adventure begins with that first step. For our Bobcat adventure, this is the beginning of a path filled with learning, growth, and fun.

Give directions on den breakouts/den meetings.

Den Break Outs

Dens may meet individually or they may be combined to complete similar or the same requirements.

Cubmaster Minute and Closing Ceremony

Cubmasters Minute

Scouts, tonight we’ve been celebrating working on the Bobcat adventure—the first required adventure of the year. We have learned the basics of Scouting: how to be trustworthy, loyal, and kind, how to help others, and how to live by the Scout Oath and Law. But here’s the thing about earning the Bobcat adventure—it’s just the start. This year we will earn many more adventures and have a lot of fun along the way and keep our Cub Scout spirit going.

Good job tonight, Scouts. And remember, have fun and do your best!
