HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES
Make this awesome constellation projector with items you have at home.
- Styrofoam cup
- A permanent marker
- A picture of a constellation you
- want to create
- A ballpoint pen
- A flashlight
- A room you can get dark
Professional Angler Tom Redington shows how to whip out the Palomar knot and start catching prize-winning bass!
- Fishing line
- A hook or lure (handle these with parent supervision)
It sounds gross but you can learn a lot about germs from this home project.
- Two tablespoons of borax
- Two plastic containers, labeled “1” and “2”
- Two cups of warm water in container “1”
- Three teaspoons of warm water in container “2”
- Quart-size zippered storage bag
- Two teaspoons white school glue
- Pinch of dirt, flour, glitter, or cocoa
- Food coloring
- Paper plate
- Protective gloves
Grab these supplies from around your house to make a home for the feathered friends who hang around your yard.
- Half-gallon carton
- Masking tape
- Paint
- Glue
- Scissors
- String or wire
- An adult-approved area where you can paint
- Access to an adult to help with tools you haven’t used before
This activity is part craft and part science experiment.
- Vegetable oil
- Water
- Small funnel (optional)
- Food coloring of your choice
- Container, like a water bottle or mason jar, to use as your “lamp”
- A seltzer tablet
- An adult-approved place to work – like a kitchen a counter
MasterChef Junior winner Logan Guleff shows us how to make a special treat for your dog.
- Access to a kitchen and an adult to help you with an oven
- 1 cup of whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup of unsweetened pumpkin
- 1/2 cup unsweetened crunchy peanut butter
- Baking grease
- Mixing bowl
- Spatula
- Cookie cutters
- Countertop
- Rolling pin
- Basting brush
- Optional: carrots and bacon bits
