Sea Scouting: Big Lakes Not Required

The end of summer means many units are returning from high-adventure time. And many of those adventures happen on, in or under the water. If a unit you serve has just come back from a fantastic sailing, paddling, or diving adventure, remind them that they can sail or paddle or dive all year around if they join or start a Sea Scout Ship (unit).

I’ve found that most youth and adults in BSA don’t realize that Sea Scouting works great with a paddle craft focus – in fact, a fast-growing portion of ships today use canoes or kayaks as their primary form of boating. But of course, sailing small and large boats is popular too and a few ships even use scuba as their primary aquatic adventure. So don’t let our Scouts miss out on a great opportunity to double down on the fun they had this summer – let’s get the word out that Sea Scouting is a viable option in your council. Salt water or big lakes aren’t required!
