Objective

Untangle the human knot to form a circle while holding hands.

Set-Up

Identify an area that is free of hazards.

Directions

To form a knot, have everyone stand in a circle, shoulder to shoulder, extending their hands into the center.  Each player then holds the hand of two different players, taking care that one of the players is not standing next to them.

Everyone is to hold hands and work to untangle the knot.  No one is to let go of any other player’s hand unless it is to prevent injury.

When the knot is untangled, it is likely they will form a circle. In some cases they may form two circles or interlocking circles.

Afterwards discuss with the players these questions:

  1. Did one person seem to take charge or become the leader?
  2. What do you think the group did well together?
  3. If the group were to do this again, what would you do differently?

Level-Up – Time how long it takes to untie the knot and repeat to see if the group gets better.    Have the group do it without talking.  Have the group do it blindfolded.
