Supply List

  • One neckerchief slide, used as a hidden object
  • Blindfold

Objective

One Cub Scout searches for a hidden object, guided by all other Cub Scouts and adult partners, using “Hot” or “Cold” and various synonyms to guide the searcher.

Set-Up

Designate boundaries of a play area for the game

Directions

Instruct all Cub Scouts and their adult partners on the boundaries for the game.  Select one Cub Scout as the “searcher” and briefly blindfold this Cub Scout.  The game leader hides the neckerchief slide within the game area, where all Cub Scouts and adult partners (except the searcher) know its location.

Safety Note:  The hidden object must be hidden where the Cub Scout can safely reach it without climbing

Remove the blindfold from the player, and instruct other Cub Scouts and adult partners to guide the searcher, using only “Hot” or “Cold” or words with those meanings.  “Hot” means you are getting closer and “Cold” means you are getting farther away from the object.  Adult partners are encouraged to use a variety of synonyms for “Hot” and “Cold” to expand the Cub Scouts’ vocabularies.  When the Searcher finds the object, select a new Cub Scout as the Searcher, and repeat.
