Floating Treasure

Cub Scouts and their families work together to move a “treasure” safely across a designated space – no competition, just shared problem-solving and laughter!  The game’s purpose is to encourage teamwork, communication, and cooperation among the Pack community.

Set-Up

Directions

Before the meeting:

  1. Clear the playing area.
  2. Use the masking tape to mark a start line and a finish line on the floor (about 10-15 feet apart).
  3. Place one paper plate ”raft” and one paper ball “treasure” on the start line for each group.
  4. Divide participants into small groups, including Cub Scouts, siblings, and parents.

During the meeting:

  1. Explain the activity. The goal of each group is to carry their paper ball “treasure” safely across the room on the paper plate “raft”.  But the tricky part is that everyone must keep at least one finger touching the raft at all times, and you can’t let the treasure fall.
  2. Have groups stand behind the start line with their raft and treasure ready.
  3. When everyone is in place, say “GO!”
  4. Teams carefully move their paper plate “raft” (with the paper ball “treasure” balanced on top) from the start to the finish line.
  5. If the paper ball “treasure” falls off the paper plate “raft”, simply have them stop, reset it, and keep going.

After the meeting:

  1. Clean up the playing area.
