Cub Scouts and adult partners sit in a circle, while one Cub Scout or adult partner tries to guess which member of the circle has a hidden toy bone.
One Cub Scout or adult partner guesses who has the bone from among all Cub Scouts and adult partners.
Teach the Cub Scouts and adult partners this simple rhyme to be used in the game:
“Doggy, Doggy, where’s your bone?
Somebody stole it from your home.
Wake up, doggy, find your bone.”
Instruct all Cub Scouts and their adult partners to sit in a circle on the ground, with their hands kept behind their back. Select one Cub Scout as the “doggy” and have that Cub Scout stand in the middle. Direct the “doggy” to close their eyes, and have the group repeat the rhyme learned during set-up. During the chant, the leader gives the toy bone to one of the Cub Scouts or adult partners in the circle. When the chant ends, the doggy “wakes up” by opening their eyes, and tries to guess who has the toy bone. After guessing successfully, or after three incorrect guesses, the Cub Scout or adult partner with the bone stands up and becomes the next “doggy”. The previous doggy returns to their place in the circle. The bone is returned to the leader. Repeat as many times as possible within the time allowed.
