Notify parents and legal guardians that a service dog will be at the den meeting.
During the meeting:
Explain to Cub Scouts that service dogs are used to help people. Service dogs can be trained to perform many important tasks to assist people with disabilities, such as providing stability for a person who has difficulty walking, picking up items for a person who uses a wheelchair, preventing a child with autism from wandering away, or alerting a person who has hearing loss when someone is approaching from behind.
Introduce the individual and service dog to the den.
Allow the individual to speak about the tasks performed by their dog.
Encourage Cub Scouts to ask questions:
What is a service animal?
What does work or perform tasks mean?
What type of training is required for the dog? What type of training does the owner need?
