How Do People Help?

Before the meeting:

1. Make arrangements with a rehabilitation center to visit with Cub Scouts. This could be for physical therapy, occupational therapy or a certified orientation and mobility clinic.
2. Notify parents and legal guardians of the den meeting time and location.
3. Gather copies of the Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Record on each participant (youth and adult)
4. Review Annual Health and Medical Records for any restrictions that may impact participation

During the meeting:

1. Bring copies of the Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Record on each participant (youth and adult)
2. Meet everyone at the location. Explain to Cub Scouts that not all disabilities are permanent. At times therapy can be used to help people overcome their disability. Sometimes therapy is needed to learn a different way of completing a task. Today they are visiting a facility that helps people with their disability.
3. Tour the facility. Encourage Cub Scouts to ask questions about equipment and how it is used. If possible, allow Cub Scouts to try some of the exercises and tasks taught by the therapist.

After the meeting:

1. Send a thank you note to the facility.
