Position Overview

The Las Vegas Area Council is seeking a high-performing, mission-driven leader to serve as Director of Program and Properties (DSS). Our council thrives on collaboration, operational excellence, and a commitment to delivering life-changing Scouting experiences to youth and families across Southern Nevada and western Arizona.

In this role, you will supervise the council’s non-traditional program offerings delivered through Base Camp, ensure program excellence for our traditional programs supporting Scouting families, and guide long‑term property stewardship. Reporting to the Director of Field Services, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening membership retention, ensuring outstanding program delivery, and enhancing Scouting’s community impact across the Las Vegas Area Council.

Responsibilities
  1. Own the Outcomes: Take full responsibility for program, properties, and key performance metrics related to program quality, participation, retention, and revenue.
  2. Lead Program Teams: Directly supervise professional and seasonal program staff, ensuring alignment, accountability, and high performance across all program areas.
  3. Execute Council Strategic Priorities: Ensure all program offerings and operational functions align with the LVAC strategic plan and meet the needs of today’s diverse families and communities.
  4. Strengthen Base Camp & Program Innovation: Develop and implement a year-round Base Camp business plan serving both members and the broader community. Ensure STEM, fitness, esports, and outdoor adventure programs are mission-aligned, accessible, and engaging.
  5. Volunteer & Committee Leadership: Partner with volunteers to lead program committees and strengthen Scouting’s visibility, recognition, and retention across the council.
  6. Manage Properties & Facility Standards: Oversee properties committees to ensure facilities are well maintained, deferred maintenance is addressed as resources allow, and all operations remain compliant with Scouting America standards.
  7. Drive Innovation & Revenue Growth: Identify and expand new revenue streams to strengthen the council’s ability to grow program offerings, expand seasonal and program staff, and increase community engagement.
Education
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (a transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment).
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of Scouting experience with a proven track record of program excellence, increasing participation at activities and events, and innovation.
  • Proven experience supervising staff and developing teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in fiscal management, budget development and management, and operational planning.
  • Proven success in volunteer recruitment and community engagement.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% and work evenings/weekends as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new technologies.
  • Valid driver’s license; employment contingent on background checks.
Benefits

The Las Vegas Area Council reimburses cell phone expenses $80 per month and business mileage at $.725 a mile monthly (or the current IRS rate). Additionally, a generous vacation policy and holiday observances in offered.

Salary or Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000 based on experience and qualifications. Moving and relocation considerations will be provided.
