Position Overview

The Chippewa Valley Council is seeking a mission‑driven Field Director to lead and support a team of Unit Serving Executives in delivering exceptional unit service, driving membership growth, and strengthening volunteer‑led Scouting. This role blends strategic leadership, staff development, and community engagement to ensure strong district operations and high‑quality program delivery across the council.

Responsibilities

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, train, lead, and inspire Unit Serving Executives
  • Provide regular in‑field coaching, support goal achievement, and conduct performance evaluations
  • Foster a professional, supportive climate that develops and retains high‑quality staff and volunteers

Unit Service & Program Quality

  • Ensure units receive quality service through quarterly visits and biannual health assessments
  • Serve as a program expert, guiding executives and units to strengthen program delivery and retention
  • Work with Commissioners to improve unit leadership, membership stability, and charter renewal
  • Promote Chippewa Valley Council programs and increase participation in key activities

Membership Growth & New Unit Development

  • Lead effective recruitment and renewal strategies to grow membership
  • Train staff on membership plans, adult leader recruitment, and cultivating new chartered partners
  • Identify opportunities for new unit formation and support strategic outreach

Fundraising & Finance

  • Help develop and monitor the annual Council Budget
  • Support accounting and cost control practices where appropriate
  • Support revenue efforts that enable the council to achieve its mission

District & Community Engagement

  • Attend district meetings and key events to strengthen partnerships
  • Recruit/Onboard District’s new volunteers into key positions
  • Represent the Chippewa Valley Council within the community and with potential partners

Council Leadership & Strategy

  • Guide service areas in maintaining long‑range strategies for membership, volunteerism, and program
  • Participate in council‑level initiatives supporting strategic planning
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Qualifications
  • Prior professional Scouting experience strongly preferred; must meet and qualify for a commission.
  • Successful experience supervising staff with strong performance outcomes.
  • Proven ability in membership growth, unit development, and volunteer engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, coaching, and presentation skills.
  • Organized, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Analytical skills with comfort using Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and council systems.
  • Team‑oriented, able to work with volunteers and community partners.
  • Handles confidential information responsibly.
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends as needed; valid driver’s license and insurable record.

Salary or Salary Range: $55,000 – $70,000 Depending on Experience
