Camp Ranger
Position Overview
The Ranger at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation is a key member of Scouting America’s camping operations team, responsible for the year-round management, operation, safety, and maintenance of camp facilities and property. This role requires a self-motivated professional who can work independently, supervise volunteers and contractors, ensure regulatory compliance, and uphold the mission and values of Scouting America.
Responsibilities
Facility Operations & Maintenance
• Maintain all camp facilities and equipment (e.g., power, water, sewage systems) in safe, clean, and showcase-ready condition.
• Operate tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, and shop tools safely and efficiently.
• Ensure all facilities are prepared for incoming campers and other users.
• Implement a proactive, preventive maintenance plan using software to track work and guide decision-making.
• Perform general repairs in plumbing, electrical, and carpentry; submit material/labor estimates for contracted work.
• Maintain required logs and certifications for water/wastewater systems; complete and submit reports to regulatory agencies.
Compliance & Safety
• Ensure all operations comply with Scouting America, local, state, and federal regulations.
• Work collaboratively with public agencies (e.g., fire, EMS, law enforcement, sanitation) to maintain compliance and safety.
• Conduct safety patrols, enforce camp policies, and ensure the property is secure and free of hazards.
Be trained in and follow the Guide to Safe Scouting and National Camp Accreditation Standards (NCAP).
Administrative & Financial Duties
• Maintain accurate inventories of tools, program materials, and supplies.
• Submit timely financial records, including petty cash reconciliation and business-related expenses.
• Use council systems for property reservations, maintenance tracking, and timekeeping.
• Provide timely vacation and sick leave requests; overtime must be pre-approved.
Leadership & Volunteer Coordination
• Supervise and mentor volunteers and seasonal maintenance staff.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with the Scouting community, guests, and neighbors.
• Recruit and coordinate volunteer labor for camp projects and workdays.
Additional Duties
• Keep all buildings and grounds clean, organized, and in good working order.
• Assist with broader council camping operations and support facilities as needed.
• Wear appropriate uniform as directed and serve as a visible ambassador of Scouting values.
• Be available for flexible scheduling, including weekends, holidays, and special events.
Education
- High school diploma or GED.
Qualifications
• Age 21 or older.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks without direct supervision.
• Capable of lifting 50+ lbs, working at heights or overhead, and performing physical labor in varied weather conditions.
• Must be or become a registered member of Scouting America.
• Willing and able to complete National Camp School Ranger Certification.
Preferred:
• Previous experience with Scouting America.
• Specialized skills in one or more trades (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
• Experience using maintenance software and tools (chainsaws, mowers, aquatic equipment, kitchen systems, etc.).

Salary or Salary Range: $45,500 + housing
