Ranch Technician - Grounds - Philmont *OPEN UNTIL FILLED
Position Overview

The Ranch Technician Grounds assists in the maintenance and grooming of over 30 acres of lawns, gardens and trees in our Camping and Administration areas, Training Center, National Scouting Museum, and Villa Philmonte. This role is critical in maintaining and grooming grounds and facilities as they are a focal point of not only the professional appearance of our operation, the expectation of groomed outdoor program delivery areas for participants, but also provide for safer and much-reduced interaction with wildlife. The role is also critical to the safety of participants and staff in snow and ice removal from sidewalks and paths during and after snow events during the fall, winter, and spring. This position reports to the Supervisor of Facility Services Philmont.
Responsibilities
- Supports grounds, irrigation and tree care at the Historic Rancho Rayado, Kit Carson Museum, and the Historic Chase Ranch.
- Supplies support in the maintenance of all mechanical equipment and infrastructure associated with the mowing of lawns, trimming of trees, fertilizing lawns, landscaping, and irrigation systems.
- Works with contractors and seasonal staff.
- Assists with maintaining the facility, roads, forests, and surrounding property. Follows safety standards and procedures.

Competencies
- Knowledge of: Facility, property, and equipment maintenance; safety standards and procedures.
- Skill in: Maintaining property (i.e. trail clearing, leaf blowing, weed trimming, etc); landscape, road, and campsite maintenance.
- Ability to: Pay attention to detail; manage time; communicate effectively; work in a team; problem solve.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications
- Must pass a criminal history background check.
- Must be willing to wear appropriate safety gear, including boots, gloves, and protective clothing while performing duties.
- Valid State Driver’s License (in good standing)
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in related field:
- Equipment Option: Must have prior experience performing any combination of tasks involving preventive maintenance and repairs (scheduled and unscheduled); land maintenance and/or grounds work or other related skills trade work.
Licenses
- Pesticide Applicator Certification may be required for Equipment Option.
