Preparing Young People

Scouting America prepares young people for lives of service by providing opportunities for them to serve their communities and others. During 2023, Scouts across America recorded more than 7.1 million hours of service to their communities at a value of more than $225 million (Based on valuation from Independent Sector with the Do Good Institute of $31.80 per hour.).

Eagle Scouts: The Merits Of Leadership

Scouting isn’t just something you do; it’s something you are. Nowhere is this truer than with the rank of Eagle Scout. Earning the
rank of Eagle Scout requires youth to plan and execute a project that considers everything they have learned about leadership. Its accomplishment is the pinnacle of the Scouting experience
and one of the most widely recognized youth awards.

In 2023, 29,269 young men and women earned the Eagle Scout Award. Since the award was first presented to Arthur R. Eldred from Troop 1 in Oceanside, New York, in 1912, 2,752,041 youth have earned Scouting’s highest award.

New Leadership For The Future Of Scouting

In 2023, Scouting America laid the foundations for a bold new future that truly welcomes all youth and gives everyone a path forward. In May, Brad Tilden became National Chairman, then seated a new National Executive Board. After a rigorous vetting process, Scouting America named Roger Krone its new President and CEO. Together with National Commissioner Scott Sorrels, the leadership went through a deliberate process to develop a new Roadmap for Scouting with five Imperatives: delivering a safe program, serving a growing and diverse membership, ensuring Scouting’s programs are engaging and impactful, refreshing and relaunching the brand, and securing Scouting America financial future. With a focus on leadership, impact, and purpose, Scouting America is prepared to make our nation better one Scout at a time.
