The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
This is a report about leadership. Leadership that shapes the lives of young people and shapes neighborhoods, communities, and the nation. Through its time-tested programs, Scouting instills character, skills, and values that transform remarkable young people into exceptional adults. It’s an enormous task made possible by the work and dedication of hundreds of thousands of dedicated leaders, parents, volunteers, as well as community
organizations and businesses. Thanks to these groups, Scouting served more than 1 million youth with its programs in 2023. Along the way, Scouts delivered more than 7.1 million hours of service to the country. Last year alone 29,269 young men and women earned the
BSA’s highest rank — Eagle Scout.
While this report highlights our successes on behalf of young people last , it also points to the future. In 2023, Scouting America emerged with new leadership, a new organization, and a robust new plan. This new Roadmap, with its emphasis on delivering a safe and vibrant program to a growing and diverse membership, is Scouting’s strategy to increase the impact of our programs on behalf of the nation. It’s an ambitious plan, but bold plans are necessary when the health, safety and wellbeing of our nation’s youth are at stake.
Families today face daunting challenges. Technology that is so important to our connected world can be isolating and detrimental to the health of children. Scouting
offers families a program that gets them off the couch and into a lifetime of adventure that develops well-rounded individuals with skills beyond the screens. It’s more than a camping program.
It’s Scouting.
We hope you will join us in this important work. Our nation, our communities and our future leaders need the values, grit, and leadership skills that Scouting instills. Your support is critical as our youth continue Scouting America

Most people associate Scouting with camping. That’s no surprise — outdoor adventure is at the core of Scouting. Every day across the nation, Scouts shoulder their packs and head outside to hike the mountains, forests, and hills. These experiences are challenging and teach essential life skills like grit, determination, problem-solving, and decision-making, which prepares them for the complexities of the modern world.
Scouting is a real, authentic experience that gets youth outside and prepares them for what’s next.
