Snapshot of Activity

Cub Scouts use a tally sheet to mark signs of wildlife.  This activity is designed to be done while completing Requirement 9.

  • Pencils – one per Cub Scout

Before the Meeting

  1. Make copies of the Wildlife Tally sheet found in additional resources.

 

During the Meeting

  1. Before heading on the one mile walk as part of Requirement 9, provide each Cub Scout with the Wildlife Tally sheet and a pencil.
  2. Review the items on the tally sheet and ask Cub Scouts what traces of wildlife they might find on their walk.
  3. During the walk, find a place for everyone to stop for 10 minutes. Ask Cub Scouts to look up, look down, and look all around to see how many traces of wildlife they can spot.
  4. After the walk, ask Cub Scouts to share their favorite part of the walk.
