Invite a Rockhound or geologist to a den meeting.

Before the meeting:

  1. One to two weeks prior to the den meeting, research and invite a Rockhound or geologist from your area to your den meeting. Let them know that the group consists of 4th graders and to discuss the three types of rocks, igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. Ask the speaker to bring rock samples.
  2. Set up meeting space for the speaker.

During the meeting:

  1. Introduce the speaker.
  2. Encourage Cub Scouts to ask questions.
    • How can we tell how a rock was formed by looking at it?
    • How are minerals and rocks different? How are they similar?
    • Why is the rock cycle important to how the earth looks today?

After the meeting:

  1. Send a thank you note to the speaker.
