Before the meeting:
- Gather two tents for the meeting.
- Set up meeting space with enough room to set up both tents.
- Set up the two tents prior to the meeting to become familiar with how the tents are set up and to ensure there are no missing pieces.
During the meeting:
- Divide den into two equal groups.
- Give each group a tent and tell them that they will be having a race to see who can put their tent together the fastest. Remind them to work together as a team and to communicate with each other.
- Instruct Cub Scouts to start.
- When both groups are finished, ask the following questions:
- What was the hardest part about putting together your tent?
- How could you work better as a team next time?
- If we are on a campout, where should we put our tent?
- What do you think determines a good tent site?
Tip: If Cub Scouts are having a hard time answering questions, have them turn to the Let’s Camp Adventure in their handbook to help answer questions
