  • Index cards
  • Old paint shirt 1 per Scout
  • 1 paper plate per Scout
  • 1 Cup for water per Scout (for washing brushes)
  • Paint brushes of different sizes
  • Table covering – craft paper, plastic table clothes or cut trash bags.
  • Tape and glue stiks
  • 1 pair of sscissors per Scout

Art Mediums

  • Watercolor or mixed medium Paper 1-2 per Scout
  • Craft paper and constrution paper
  • Crayons and or Oil pastels
  • Markers and pens
  • Pencils and colored pencils
  • Watercolor or acrylic craft paint

Before the meeting:

  1. Gather or buy supplies.
  2. Cover tables with craft paper, plastic table clothes or cut trash bags.
  3. Fill cups(s) with water.
  4. Write art mediums on index cards and put them in a big hat or bucket. You should have duplicates of each art medium so each Scout will have 1-3 different mediums.

During the meeting:

  1. Ask Scouts what a mixed media art project is? Then Give definition.
Tell Scout that sometimes it’s hard to decide what we want to use to make art, so we are going to play a game!
  2. Now let each scout draw one card from the hat at a time. Scouts need to have at least two cards by the end,
with a max of 2-3. If they get a duplicate they have to re-draw from the hat.
Whatever art mediums are on the Scout’s cards are the ones the Scout must use to create their artwork!
  3. give Scout plenty of time to create their art.
  4. After cleaning up, have time for each scout to share their artwork with the den, what they used to make it and say what they liked about this activity.
