Snapshot of Activity

Walk around your home and identify items that are hazardous. Post the Poison Control information in a central place to have available should it be needed.

Before the meeting: 

  1. Print one page of Hazard labels on sticker paper for each Cub Scout. 

During the meeting: 

  1. Discuss with the Cub Scouts the various hazard symbols and what they mean. 
    • Flammable-contents that may easily catch file or cause a fire. 
    • Poison- the Poison Health Line 1-800-222-1222 that can assist if you suspect someone has been poisoned. Tell Cub Scouts that they should have the container available when calling the hotline. 
    • Corrosive-contents may cause metals and other materials to break down. It will cause skin to burn. 
    • In Case of Emergency-call 911 for any other hazards or if unsure of what to do. 
  2. Encourage Cub Scouts to return home and with a parent or legal guardian, locate hazardous items in their home.  Locate any information on the products that describes the hazard or poison. Place the appropriate label on the item. 
  3. Take a picture of the items with the label. Share at the next den meeting.
