  • Painters tape
  • Two items to be taped to a wall
  • Empty paper towel tube
  • Grabber Reacher tool

Before the meeting:

  1. Select two items to tape to the wall.
  2. Tape one item on the wall where one or two Cub Scouts can reach it, but others cannot.
  3. Tape the second item where no one can reach it.
  4. Place paper towel tube and Grabber Reacher tool in a place where Cub Scouts can see them.

During the meeting:

  1. Explain to Cub Scouts that they need to get items off the wall. They are not allowed to stand on furniture. They can use other items in the room to reach the items.
  2. Give each Cub Scout a chance to reach the lower item.
  3. Give each Cub Scout the chance to reach the higher item and figure out how to get it down.
  4. When the activity is completed, discuss with Cub Scouts how they felt about not being able to reach the item. How did they solve the problem? What do they think it is like for a person who cannot reach for items anywhere they want?
