Can We Get There?

Before the meeting:

1. Find a suitable open space free of obstacles.
2. Order the vision simulator glasses or make your own.
3. Remind Cub Scouts to wear their neckerchief to the meeting. Have some extra bandanas available.
4. Using the painters tape, create walking paths on the floor with 3 or 4 turns.

During the meeting:

1. Share with Cub Scouts that people may see differently, and this impacts how we all travel in our environment.
2. Have Cub Scouts buddy up to travel through the maze.
3. Have one Cub Scout be the one with impaired vision and one assigned to provide verbal directions.
4. Have each buddy group navigate the path using the vision simulator glasses covering both eyes, covering a single eye and with blurred vision. Record the time.
5. Have the buddies switch. Record the time.
6. Compare the results for different levels of impairment.
7. Ask Cub Scouts about the challenges of traveling along the path with each type of vision impairment.
