The BSA National Outdoor Conference 2021 – THE BASICS

It is that time that comes around every two years in the outdoor program world of the BSA, the highly anticipated National Outdoor Conference! The National Outdoor Conference or NOC to those “in the know” is a time for those BSA volunteers and professionals to come together to discuss all things outdoor program related and this year’s conference will be no different…well sort of.

The 2021 National Outdoor Conference will be conducted in a virtual format to help all councils take advantage of all the great sessions and speakers as well as visit the vendor fair, all without the time and expense of additional travel.

We want you to be able to spend two days concentrating on content and outdoor program and then be able to put what you have learned into practice immediately. Once the conference has ended, participants will be able to access the recorded session for an additional 30 days. So if there were two sessions in a time block that you wanted to attend, you may have a chance to “see them both” with this ability to go back to visit the sessions as a later time. This conference promises to have the same opportunities to share ideas and best practices, to learn from each other, to hear some exceptional guest speakers and even network and “meet up” with your friends from across the outdoor program world of the BSA.

So here is what you need to know NOW to get you started.

WHO: The National Outdoor Conference is open to any Scouting employee or volunteer who gives leadership to or is interested in the outdoor programs of the BSA. This includes (but not limited to) Scout Executives, Camp Directors, Camp Rangers, Council board members, Council committee members for camping, properties, membership etc. The list could go on and on, but we think you get the idea. ANYONE who want to learn more about managing a camping, properties or outdoor programs operations in the BSA.

WHAT: Participate in the National Outdoor Conference – held online for 2021!

WHEN: Nov 5-6, 2021, from 10 AM – 4 PM CENTRAL TIME each day

BONUS: since the platform is virtual, you can continue to interact with the vendor fair and can have additional networking opportunities outside of the posted times!

WHERE: The event will be hosted on a special, virtual conference platform. Details will be sent out soon!

WHY: The conference will focus on three objectives to help your council develop stronger outdoor programs:

  1. Membership Growth through outdoor programs – learn and discuss how to grow Scouting through leveraging your outdoor programs
  2. Property Utilization – learn how to use your property not just for “summer camp” and how to leverage this tool to better serve your community
  3. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – we are all on a spectrum of DEI in our councils and camps. Learn from some experts in the field on how to begin or continue the conversations around this critical topic.

If you have a session that you would like to lead related to one of these objectives, use this link to submit a request for proposal https://scouting.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1YVZCX2bVy5R76Z and share your idea.
