SCOUTStrong Healthy Units Across the Country

Thousands of Scouts and leaders from across the country have earned the SCOUTStrong Healthy Unit Award. Read what some leaders had to say about bringing three healthy practices to their meetings:

Sandy Smith, den leader, Pack 8, Katahdin Area Council, Bangor, Maine: “The Tiger Cubs are really engaged and trying new things … and that is what Cub Scouts is all about. I can tell you, we will do this again next year. It’s a part of our program and we [all 15 families] are committed to it. The biggest hit was the fruit and vegetable tasting. Kids tried new ones, learned to identify them, and then saw them as part of a healthy plate.”

Dan Poirier, den leader, Pack 725, Coastal Carolina Council, Summerville, South Carolina: “A secret that made this so positive was that I made every attempt to keep if fun. We started off with calisthenics. None of the kids really wanted to do them until I did them myself!”

Lynn Dellmuth, den leader, Pack 193, Nashua Valley Council, Winchendon, Massachusetts: “The physical activity helped the boys shake out some of the silliness, especially after a long day at school. I incorporated some team-building physical activities, as being able to work together is important to having a group of boys that will take the Scouting experience for all it is worth.”
