So will all National Camping Schools be online in the future? This question has become a more popular one over the last few weeks and months as we try to determine how to get staff trained appropriately to serve in camp roles going forward. The answer to the question is “no, this is not our intent”.
To meet the needs of councils we have an opportunity for camp staff to be trained at Philmont this fall. We will be offering (as of June 16, 2020) a National Camping School, in-person course on September 20-26. The sections offered will be: Camp Director, Program Director, COPE, Climbing, Ecology, Outdoor Skills, and Shooting Sports. Any updates to this plan will be communicated on the NCS website as well as other communication channels.
With a new season comes new opportunities. The plan for 2021 is to get back to “business as usual” with in person courses being offered around the country to best meet the needs of our councils. This schedule is in the planning stages now with plans to be released by September 1.
We are all looking forward to the opportunities to gather around the campfires of NCS and enjoy telling the stories and sharing experiences to help one another soon, but until then – #Scouton
