Directions
Before the meeting:
Gather bike locks.
Place bike locks in separate areas around the meeting space for Cub Scouts to gather around and have room to work.
During the meeting:
Divide den into three equal groups.
Each group will have a different lock to start. You will give each group what they need to open the lock, but not tell them how to open it.
Start a timer and see how quickly the group can get the lock open. Write down each time for each group on how quickly they can get it opened. Once all the groups opened their locks and times have been recorded, lock them back up.
Have Cub Scouts rotate to the next lock and repeat the process until each group has had a turn opening and closing each lock.
Once everyone has been through each station, compare the times and see which group was able to open the locks fastest.
Ask following questions:
Why is it important we lock our bikes?
Where have you seen a bike rack to attach your bike to?
Which lock do you have for your bike and why did you choose it?
