Team Leader, Strategy Team
Tom is an Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow Vigil member. He began his professional Scouting career in 1982 as an associate district executive in Northern Virginia. He has also served local councils in Southern Europe and Central Maryland. In December 2003, he was promoted to Scout executive in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Tom joined the Center for Professional Development on February 1, 2008 and also served as a Leadership Development Specialist with Scouting University. He is currently the Team Leader, Strategy. Tom earned the CPLP (Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) in October 2014. Tom received his Bachelor of Science degree in forestry and wildlife from Virginia Tech. He served two years in the Peace Corps in Burkina Faso.
Tom and his wife Carol have a son Brandon, who is married to Karen and serving in the U.S. Army out of Boston.
Strategic Plan Coach, Strategy Team
Jim Kornegay is the National Plan Coach for council strategic planning and works in the Research Strategy Department. His role is to develop and provide training, consulting and facilitation services to council leadership teams involved in strategic planning. He also trains councils on the use of BSA tools that document and track strategic plans.
He comes to the BSA from EDS in Plano, Texas where he worked for 12 years as a business analyst and project manager. Prior to working for EDS, Jim worked for the U.S. Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Port Hueneme, CA for 8 years in combat systems post overhaul testing and served 4 years active duty in San Diego.
He lives with his wife Chris in Allen, Texas.
Program Assistant, Strategy
Nesia Harris has served on the National Service Center staff since August 2015. As a Member Care Advocate, she provided strong customer service for both volunteers and councils with ScoutNet, MyBSA support and IT application troubleshooting. Her role in Member Care was to also assist councils with Blackbaud issues and Leadership Training for Volunteers
Her role with BSA has changed to working with the Strategy Team as part of the Research & Data, Strategy, Health & Safety Department. Her efforts seek to assist local councils with strategic planning and execution—leading to growth in membership, program and fund development.
Nesia also supports the Governance and Strategic Planning classes in the FTSEO, SLE1 and SLE2 courses at ScoutingU.
Nesia really enjoys working with Boy Scouts of America. She likes being part of a movement that enriches, encourages, and instills values in the youth of America.
Nesia has three sons Rumeal and Justin residing in Arlington, Texas and Trent who lives in Carthage, Texas.
