Imagine thousands of Scouts armed with still cameras and audio recorders, hunting great Scouting stories to share via social media sites.
That’s the vision for the BSA’s Visual Storytelling Workshops, which focus on developing a network of accomplished Scouting storytellers who share the excitement and adventure of Scouting via social media using photography and audio. Adult attendees at regional workshops learn the basics of multimedia storytelling, how to publish to the Web, and techniques for passing on what they learn. They then commit to either producing two stories themselves over a specified period after the workshop, or to conducting two workshops for their local council to teach Scouts and other adult volunteers the same storytelling techniques.
The BSA hopes to expand the concept and help grow the organization by teaching Scouts how to share their exciting Scouting experiences with their friends.
One workshop remains in 2013, at the Philmont Training Center in Cimarron, NM, Week 9, from August 4-10.
