The Charles L. Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base offers a unique and rustic conference facility on Moose Lake 20 miles east of Ely, Minnesota. Our property is adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Quetico Provincial Park, which encompass over 3 million acres of pristine lakes and streams. Each summer, over 3,000 youth embark on a high-adventure trip from our landing on Moose Lake. During the fall, spring and winter weekdays, our facility is available for your conferences, so if you’d like to host a rustic conference or gathering in this beautiful wilderness setting, consider holding it at the Charles L. Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base.
Northern Tier facilities include the following: a state of the art kitchen and Dining Hall capable of serving 250 people at once, 3 high technology (equipped with video and audio) Conference Rooms, 28 bunkhouse cabins for housing, motel-room style housing for up to 8 people and immediate access to a beautiful wilderness area.
In addition, the Northern Tier Training Center offers several training courses throughout the year:

Wilderness First Aid,
Wilderness First Responder and
Cold Weather Leader Training.
