Food

Food served at the jamboree will be nutritious, easy to prepare, and plentiful. Click here to view the patrol menus. Detailed cooking instructions will be delivered to each troop site. All lunches are prepared for the Scouts and are picked up by them during the day at any one of 12 lunch kiosks.

Snacks are available for purchase. Click here to view the choices and prices for the retail food. The easiest way for a Scout to purchase snacks is by the use of a “smart bracelet.” It is a waterproof bracelet that Scouts can wear without worrying about losing their credit cards or cash. Of course, the snack bars also take Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards, as well as cash.

Birthday cake: Here is a link where parents and friends may purchase a celebratory cake. The half-sheet cakes are decorated with the jamboree logo and are delivered with 28 plates, forks, and napkins. If you order two half-sheet cakes, it will feed the entire troop.

Peanuts: Peanuts and peanut oil will not be in any products served at the jamboree. Peanut butter will be issued to troops as needed, but Scouts allergic to peanuts will not encounter peanut butter. Peanuts will also be in some candy, such as Snickers, for sale at the snack bars. Obviously, Scouts who know they are allergic to peanuts should not purchase products with peanuts in them.

Other than kosher and halal meals, there are no other menu choices for meals at jamboree. The meals are prepared by the Scouts in their patrols, resulting in 3,500 cooking stations throughout the jamboree site, so those with severe food allergies must make arrangements to bring food with them. Make sure your jamboree Scoutmaster and subcamp commissary officer know about your Scout’s severe food allergies.

Mail to the Jamboree

For efficient postal service to the jamboree, letters and packages must be addressed in this manner:

    (Fill in participant’s full name)
    Jamboree Troop (fill in number)
    Subcamp No. (fill in number)
    2010 National Scout Jamboree
Bowling Green, VA 22428- (fill in the last four digits of the zip code using the Scout’s troop number)

All incoming mail will be handled through the regular camp-wide Jamboree Postal Service. Packages to individuals will not be accepted on a collect (cash-on-delivery) basis; they must be sent prepaid to the jamboree. Due to base security, packages sent by other carriers (i.e. UPS, FedEx, etc) will not be delivered to the subcamp by those carriers and will need to be X-rayed off site. Once cleared, those packages will be turned over to the Jamboree Postal Service for delivery. Therefore, it is highly recommended to use the U.S. Postal Service for packages. Mail for each subcamp will be handled by a subcamp postmaster, and each jamboree troop leader will assign an adult leader within his troop to serve as troop postmaster.

Mail From the Jamboree

Outgoing letters and packages can be mailed from an official U.S. Postal Service from the main post office located at Heth School House near Trading Post A or from one of the substations located at Trading Post B & C. U.S. Postal Service hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For the return address on all mail or packages, each participant must use his home address. Otherwise, undelivered mail will be returned to the jamboree site long after participants have departed for home.

Patch Placement

A jamboree emblem is worn above right pocket by a Boy Scout/Venturer or Scouter who is registered to attend or attended the jamboree as a registered participant or staff member. Both a world and a national jamboree patch may be worn--one current national jamboree patch above the right pocket and one current world jamboree patch on the right pocket.

Council jamboree shoulder patches should be the same size, shape, and dimensions as the council's shoulder patch. Council jamboree shoulder patches cannot have pictorial representations or descriptive remarks relating to commercial corporations or commercial products nor should jamboree shoulder patches include the jamboree emblem. Taken from the Insignia Guide.
