The Purpose of Hispanic Initiatives

The purpose and success of Hispanic Initiatives is expressed by measuring the increases of:

  • Latino youth membership
  • Recruitment, retention, and promotion of Latino executives
  • Latino parent volunteers
  • Engaged partnerships with Latino organizations.

By generating increases in these four areas through the strategies created by Hispanic Initiatives, the Boy Scouts of America hope to double the membership of Latino youths in the short term and effect a new awareness, inclusion, and cooperation at the national, regional, and council levels in the longer term. Accomplishing a measured increase in the four defined areas will help the Boy Scouts of America address the needs and concerns of today’s Hispanic and Latino families more accurately and with greater cultural sensitivity.

Hispanic Initiatives directly supports the traditions of the Boy Scouts of America with updated and culturally appropriate marketing materials, recruitment strategies, partnerships, and program development. The ultimate goal is to help engage the Hispanic community in meaningful ways, but success will also help maintain financially sound councils, create an increase in youth and adult membership, and attract bilingual and bicultural professionals. With the changing landscape of the American population and the rapid growth within the Hispanic population, there is an exciting opportunity to introduce the benefits of Scouting to a large population of future leaders. The creation of the Hispanic Initiatives team and the National Hispanic Initiatives Committee demonstrates the commitment of the Boy Scouts of America to form a progressive and innovative strategy that will benefit Hispanic communities well into the century.
