Friends of Scouting, product sales, event planning, and donor cultivation are all areas where every local council focuses much time and energy. FUNDS STILL AVAILABLE, AFP MEMBER SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship funds are still available for membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). These funds, provided by Development and Corporate Alliances, are set aside to encourage growth in local councils’ development professionals through membership in the AFP. Directors of development and development directors will receive one-year and two-year scholarships respectively. Read more.

AUCTION CONSIGNMENT SERVICES CAN BE BOON OR BUST
Several councils have used consignment services to generate high-end packages for their auctions. Packages could range from trips, to tickets to unique activities such as the Super Bowl or the Masters, to off-the-wall opportunities like flying a Phantom jet. Read more.

HIGH-NET-WORTH DONORS GAVE LESS BUT VOLUNTEERED MORE
A study conducted by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University and Bank of America indicates that despite the difficult economic outlook, wealthy donors still gave to charity, but gave less in 2011 than they did in 2009. However, the study shows that even though they gave less in 2011, they volunteered more in 2011 than in 2009. Read more.
